So after a little unpicking which was surprisingly not very painful at all, I was able to finish my top. It fits well and I love the fabric, so it's a win. Phew :)
Well done. If it happened to me, it would be starting to get buried on my sewing table as a "get back to it and fix it up when I can be bothered" project :P It is lovely.
