Heritage Costumes

I volunteered myself to make some heritage costumes and have been having a fabulous time digging out all the bits of lace that I have had stashed for years.

The first dress I made out of sheets - the blue floral I bought from the Salvos for $2, however after I cut it I realised it was so thin that i's almost see through, so I grabbed an old white poly cotton sheet out of my linen press to make a sewn in lining. I also added some hot pink ribbon to look like it was laced up (not quite authentic, I know, but it was fun!). The bonnet and apron are made from another sheet, but this one must have been fabulous quality fabric (it feels gorgeous) because it was soooo hard to get the pins into!!! Never again!!

Not quite what I imagined!

This has been sitting in my UFO pile for a few months now. It's a velour Henrika dress and I had decided to applique a fairy to the front but she looked nothing like what I had envisioned when I started out. Anyway I have come to the realisation that any sewing project is a learning experience, even those ones that don't go to plan, so I finished it off so it can be worn. At the very least it's very soft and snuggly, I never used to like velour - I thought it was nasty and kinda cheap looking but that was the synthetic stuff. Now that I've discovered how soft and beautiful cotton velour is I'm kinda wishing I could get away with wearing a velour dress myself. Hmmm, maybe not a good look but I could maybe get away with some soft cosy tracky daks!!

What do you do with this?

This was one of those Op shop finds that you can't leave behind but have no idea what to do with :) There were actually 2 pieces of this fabric - they were curtains. But when I got home I found the lady had only put one in the bag......whatever happened to the other one?.......hmmmm. Anyway - I keep thinking I could make shorts out of the forest section but then what would I do with that huge whale? It seems a shame to throw him out. I could make a huge cushion, but I have a tiny house and a huge cushion would take up our whole floor! Maybe this one is destined for a swap.....or Ebay.......or maybe it'll just sit in my cupboard forever to be cleaned out by my great grandkids when they pop me in the nursing home LOL.

Le Bag

OK, so this is one of those sad little Blogs that never get any attention and I thought I'd better rectify that......since my current project is annoying me I'm going to go back and share some of the ones I've been very happy with.

This I have dubbed Le Bag because of the beautiful Paris fabrics from the Michael Miller range....I think it turned out quite well.

Well, here I am.......and I never thought I'd be doing this

Well, I never thought I'd be a Blogger.......guess you should never say never cause here I am LOL.

I have created this blog to record my creations. I'm a sewer, a fabric hoarder, an op-shopper and a very sloooooowww knitter so these are the things I shall be blogging about.

I also like to potter in my garden and dabble in the odd vege growing though for the last couple of years the only veges I've grown are the pumpkins and watermelons that came out of my compost - but I had a bumper crop off them so who's complaining!!

I'm hoping that someday soon I will have some of my sewing creations up for sale.....the intention is definitely there, it's just such a shame that I need to sleep sometimes!
